First Grade

 April 8, 2020

Dear Fabulous Firstie Families,

We hope this letter finds you safe, well, and finding moments of ease and kindness.  There are more changes we need to make you aware of. As of Monday, April 13, 2020, remote learning will be taking place across the district.  We are working together to develop engaging and fun lessons for all first-grade students. On Monday, your child will be receiving the same lessons that all PMES first grade students will be receiving.  Each week, Reading, Writing, & Math lessons will be posted from various teachers to your child’s Google Classroom page.

Many of you have already joined your child’s teacher on a new learning adventure on Google Classroom. The lessons will be posted by All grade 1 classroom teachers, service providers such as OT and Speech, English Language Arts teachers, Special education teachers, and even student teachers.  Your child can work on these lessons on the schedule that works for your family. They may turn in assigned work in the form of a drawing, writing, a typed document, a video, etc as they complete it or on Fridays into Google Classroom.

Our classrooms will continue to build our unique communities through a weekly Zoom or Google Meet, video read alouds and discussion.  From now on, students are encouraged to communicate with their teacher through Google Classrooms.

Please contact your child’s teacher with any questions. We are delighted to be available to you via phone or email.

For more information about Westfield’s Remote Learning Plan please visit our district’s website at

A GREAT BIG THANK YOU for all you have been doing at home with your child to support their well-being and learning.  Go Grade 1!
